Walkup Internet Port Authentication (WIPA)
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- How do I log in through the WIPA system?
Simply open a web browser and attempt to go to any web page. It doesn't matter where you try to go,
you should be redirected to the WIPA authentication page. There you should login with your gatorlink username (including @ufl.edu after the username). If your login is successful your
browser should go to the web page that you originally tried to go to.
- What does my web browser need to support to be able to use the system?
Your web browser should support https(SSL). This is required to be able to login through the WIPA gateway.
- Do I need to have cookies enabled?
No, cookies are not required for the WIPA system. However they are required for Gatorlink and my.ufl.edu pages
so it is a good idea to have them enabled.
- Do I have to use WIPA to authenticate?
No, you can also use the Campus VPN
service to authenticate. This is in fact the preferred method to use for wireless users since it encrypts
all traffic from the client computer. For information go to the VPN site at http://nstest.nerdc.ufl.edu/provided_services/vpn/.
- If I am using the VPN do have to log in through the WIPA system first?
No, you only need to use one or the other. If you are going to use the VPN system then simply open the VPN
connection and once authenticated you should be free to use the connection. There is no need to login through the WIPA system first.
- How do I log out?
There are two ways to log out.
1. You can simply shut your computer off and after the system detects you are gone for a short period of time (currently
five minutes) you will automatically be logged out. This however does not work if you are using a public computer lab
where the computers stay turned on all the time. In these locations you should always use the next method to
be sure you are logged out.
2. The other way to log out is to use the logout dialog box. When you initially login to the WIPA system a small
window will be displayed in the lower right corner of your desktop. This window will have a link in it that will log
you out of the system. Doing this ensures that your session will be dropped immediately. This is especially important
if you are logging into the WIPA system from a public access computer.
- What if don't see the logout dialog box?
If for some reason the logout window does not appear after you log in you can try to make it regenerate by
returning to the login page. This can be done by typing "connect.nomadic.ufl.edu" in the URL field of your browser. Doing
this should redirect you to the WIPA gateway you are behind. You should not have to log in again (you should see red text
indicating that you are already logged in) but it should regenerate the logout window.
- What if I accidentally close the logout dialog box?
If you close the logout window and wish to get it back you can follow the procedure listed above.
Just type 'connect.nomadic.ufl.edu' in the URL field of your browser and you should be redirected the WIPA gateway you are
behind.
- Why did a web page come up and not the login page?
Your browser may be displaying a cached web page. Try going to a new web page to force the login page
to load. Alternately you can also try reloading the page pushing the Reload button in the browser or using
the Control-R keyboard command (in most browsers).
There are also certain web pages that you may be able to view without being logged in. Some of them are the
main UF web site, the UF AUP page, the Gatorlink account management page, and the UP VPN pages. If for some
reason your browser is set to go to one of these pages the login page will not load; you will need to go to
another web site to force the login session to occure.
- What do I do if I continue to have problems?
Call the CIRCA Help Desk at 392-HELP (4357) or go to CSE507.
