Network Services Root Certificate

This page provides a link to the Network Services root SSL certificate.  The SSL (secure sockets layer) protocol is the standard for encryption communications between users and SSL enabled sites. Data sent via an SSL connection is protected by message authentication and encryption, mechanisms that prevents eavesdropping and tampering with any transmitted data.  Web server certificates (also known as secure server certificates or SSL certificates) are required to initialize an SSL session.  Certificates can be "signed" by a Certificate Authorioty(CA) to attest to the authenticity of the certificate in question.  The CA for this certificate is Network Services and the certificate was generated via a local self signing process.   This installation of the NS root certificate on your computer will automatically trust all sites that have been signed by this certificate.   Several NS services have been signed with this root certificate including the campus VPN service and the wireless/public access WIPA service.
