Conditions for Acceptance of Contractor Installed Fiber Cable
During installation
Documentation and Testing
- Upon completion of a project, the contractor will be responsible for furnishing test results referenced by cable names determined by UF Campus Data Labeling Convention and documentation containing the following information.
- Name of the cable strand tested
- Date of the test
- Test Procedure used (OFSTP-7 A.1 for SingleMode fiber, OFSTP-14A B for MultiMode fiber, and so on)
- Testing personnel
- Type and Manufacturer of cable (supply spec sheet from manufacturer)
- Type of test equipment used
- Date of last calibration of test equipment
- Distance of the cable run
- Loss measurements taken from both ends and at both applicable wavelengths (850 and 1300 nm for MM, 1310 and 1550 nm for SM)
- Name of termination ports for both ends of the strand (e.g. 0432-1A-WFPL1.1/2)
- This information will be supplied to Network Services in electronic format.
- Upon receipt of complete test results and documentation, Network Services will have seven working days to inspect the installation and request any changes.
- Once notified that any requested changes have been made, Network Services will again have seven working days to inspect the installation. This cycle of notification, inspection, and change requests will continue until the installation matches all UF installation, labeling, and documentation standards.
Conclusion
A cable installation at the University of Florida will no longer be considered complete or functional until...
- The cable's physical installation and terminations are complete
- Complete test results with all pertinent info have been supplied to Network Services
- Network Services/Telecommunications has completed a satisfactory inspection of the installation
Until these conditions have been met, no part of the cable or project will be considered functional or acceptable. No connections will be made and no network connectivity will be supplied through the cable until the project is complete.
